About our Marriage Events
At UMC we deeply and sincerely believe that marriage is a very important part of both deen and humanity. We appreciate that there is much diversity in how people choose to live their lives and this is a truly beautiful thing. We are fortunate enough to live in a society where we can shape our lives the way that we see fit and this does not always involve the culturally or religiously traditional path.
What we have seen however is that there are some common truths. From our experience most people, regardless of faith or culture, are seeking a life partner. We have also seen that in recent times this has become more complicated to navigate.
Our aim is to help break down the ‘noise’. We have seen a great deal of confusion created from mixed, often conflicting messages. Family pressure mixed with social expectations; lack of clarity around personal identity mixed with misconceptions about what a marriage truly is and what you should be really looking for in a partner.
Who are we? We have been married for over 12 years and have been through an incredible journey during that time. We have faced unimaginable personal challenges but are fighting our way through, with every hurdle making us stronger and more grateful for the love we share. We also have a beautiful daughter, who truly is the light of our lives. We have been running Islamic Social networking groups for over 12 years and also have the added insight gained from over 15 years working within the field of Psychology and human behaviour.
Now, this by no means makes us experts, but we have a perspective on what makes a marriage work and we believe that perspective can help others gain clarity into what really matters. We are not here to dictate, but to bring people together, promote conversation, disrupt unhelpful stereotypes and share learning.
Our aim is to help you to understand yourself and understand what you truly want from a partner. With guidance we aim to help you find a potential spouse who shares your beliefs and aspirations, and whom you can grow with to create a marriage filled with love, mutual respect, happiness and companionship.
What to expect – We will be running networking sessions, socials and workshops. The aim is to help build lasting connections and inshallah help navigate you towards a potential life partner.
